One of the real joys of being ordained a priest this year is the number of baptisms I have been able to perform in the last three months. Last Sunday I baptised my tenth person! Some of them were babies and infants, but some were children able to make that decision for themselves and also some adults who decided to be baptised so they could be godparents themselves. In our Gospel reading this week, the disciples try to stop people from bringing their children up to Jesus but he says to them, ‘let them come, don’t stop them, because everyone who enters the kingdom of heaven should be like a little child.’ We just need to have the qualities that young children have; trust, dependence, faith, innocence and love, to become a follower of Christ.
